Austria aims to achieve climate neutrality by 2040, with the building sector playing a central role due to its high share of energy consumption. Especially in areas without district heating connections, there is a need for sustainable and cost-efficient solutions for heat supply. The project addresses this challenge by developing new implementation models for renewable energy networks.
ENABLE-DHC is an EU-funded project under the LIFE programme that supports the transformation of district heating and cooling systems towards climate neutrality. The focus is on developing concrete investment strategies and practical solutions for decarbonizing existing systems in several European countries.
Hydrogen from renewable energy sources has the potential to enable the full decarbonization of the energy system. However, the widespread deployment of renewable hydrogen is currently hindered by high overall costs. To address this barrier, the H2REAL project was initiated.
